Want to learn how to play the piano, but don’t want to spend a heap of time learning how to read sheet music?

Learning piano doesn’t have to be as heard as you may believe it is. If fact if you start by learning chords it is actually quite simple.

That’s understandable. Learning piano doesn’t have to be the hard chore so many believe it to be. In fact, it can be quite easy IF YOU START BY LEARNING CHORDS!

If you learn piano this way it is so much easier - and you stay motivated as you see the improvement so quickly, than learning how to read notes on a page. This is because we are creating the music ourselves.

Once you have your chords down, you are then able to explore your piano in a way that would never have been able to before. Many piano players do not believe that they have the ability to improvise, but this is not true. If you have the desire, then this is all you need. And once a student takes the plunge they are hooked!

To learn piano without years of lessons is not as hard as you would think. All it requires in the time and ability to learn a few simple chords and then create music by experimenting with those chords.

However if you are looking to be a classically trained pianist you are going to have to learn how to read music, but if you are just wanting to learn the piano, chord learning is perfect.

New Age piano is a beautiful style of music that many use to relax and unwind. But did you know that it’s also easy to create on your own? You don’t need a lot of theory or background in music to start playing piano in the New Age style.

All you really need is to know a few chords and then jump in and play. Most teachers start students off with the humble triad. And while there’s nothing wrong with this chord type, it’s not very modern sounding.

In fact, triads have been used in music for over 300 years. They still are being used but if you want a more modern sound right away, I suggest you learn something called the “open position” chord. This chord structure allows you to use both hands right away to create a beautiful modern sound. And it’s quite easy to learn.

For example, you have only 4 chords to learn. And once these are under your fingers, you can start exploring with music. You can actually begin improvising and creating your very own New Age piano music. I know this sounds too easy. But if you take a look at the video lesson, you’ll see me demonstrating it. First, you learn how to play the open position chords. Then you use these same chords to create with.

There are Several Reason & few Basic in learning Chord Piano

There are FOUR basic types of seventh chords: Major 7, Minor 7, Dominant 7 and Diminished 7. This article explains the construction and function of Major 7 and minor 7 chords.

Major 7th Chords

Formula: 1 3 5 7– This means that you use the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th notes of the major scale. (EXAMPLE: C E G B) (NOTATION: CM7 or Cmaj7) This is NOT the chord you play when someone says “C7″. That is a whole different animal. Basically, this chord is constructed by starting the MAJOR TRIAD and adding the SEVENTH note in the scale.

Function: The chord-functions of the major seventh chord are two: It can function as a I chord or tonic chord built on the root of the current key. It may also function as a IV chord (also called the sub-dominant. The IV chord is used to provide a temporary “resting point” and tends to want to go back to the I chord.

To fully understand chord functions, you need to be familiar with diatonic chord progressions and key signatures. I will later give you an excellent source of information about both chord progressions and key signatures.

For example, in the key of C Major, the I chord would be C Major 7(C E G B) and the IV chord would be F Major 7 (F A C E). What about the key of G? The I chord is G Major 7 (G B D F#) and the IV chord is C Major 7(C E G B)

Minor Seventh Chords

Formula: 1 b3 5 b7 — This means that you use the 1st, flatted 3rd, 5th, and flatted 7th notes in the major scale. (EXAMPLE: C Eb G Bb) (NOTATION: Cm7 or C mi 7).

Let’s try another one–how about Eb minor 7? Did you say Eb Gb Bb Db? Then you are exactly right!

Function: This chord functions as a ii, a iii, or a vi chord. These three chords all have a tendency to want to go to a chord a FOURTH HIGHER. For example, in the key of C, “Dm7″ (ii chord) would go up a fourth to “G7″ (V chord) which then would go back to “C” (I chord). This well-known chord progression is called a”ii V I” progression. In the key of G major, the iii chord, Bm7 would want to go up a 4th to Em7–the vi chord, which then want to go up a 4th to Am7, –the ii chord, which in turn would tend to go up a 4th to D7–the V chord, which would then go back to G, the I chord and we would have a “iii vi ii V I” progression.

Many piano students want to learn how to play piano by ear. Some are hesitant to learn because they fear it will be too difficult. While it can be hard at first, the more you practice, the easier it becomes.

Melody

The first thing you need to work on to play piano by ear is the melody. Find a song you like that has a simple melody, then sit down at the piano and try to pick it out. This will be easier if you work on recognizing intervals. An interval is simply the distance between two notes. If you can recognize intervals easily, you will be able to pick out a melody much faster.

Chords

After picking out the melody, the next step to play piano by ear is to harmonize the melody with chords. If you’re a beginner, you will be happy to know that you only need to know three chords in order to harmonize any melody. These three chords are based on the first, fourth, and fifth notes of the scale in whatever key you’re playing in. In the key of C, the three chords would be C, F, and G chords. These three chords include every note in the key of C.

Chord Voicing

The last thing you need to know to play piano by ear is chord voicing. Chord voicing is when you play a chord in any position other than root position. Let’s take a C chord for example. In root position, you will play a C, E, and G in that order. To voice the chord differently, you could play the E on the bottom, followed by a G and C. You could also play the G on the bottom, with the C and E played above it. When you play piano by ear, you could play all chords in root position, but you could vary your sound by using different chord voicing.

Learning how to play piano by ear is not that difficult. Once you have the melody figured out, all you have to do is harmonize it with chords. After that, you could experiment with different chord voicing to vary the sound. After practicing for a while, you will know how to play piano by ear with ease.

Learning piano chords can help you in all your piano playing. For me chords are the easiest way to play and the simplest way to embellish my playing.

It would help if you also knew a little music theory like how your scales are made but once you get that down you can really go places with chords.

Chords, chords, chords.. I love them! And now when I’m playing some difficult piano piece I can actually look at my hands and see the chords I’m playing even though they are not notated that way on my music. Mostly now I think in terms of chords rather than individual notes.

There is a whole world of chords out there and I encourage you to look into them. It can really excel and excite your playing.

If you are a beginning piano student, one of the first things you learn are the major scales. If you know your major scales, then you can easily play major piano chords.

A major piano chord is formed by playing the first, third, and fifth notes of the scale. For example, a D major scale is D-E-F#-G-A-B-C#-D. D, F#, and A are the first third, and fifth notes of the D major scale, so a D major chord consists of D, F#, and A. An F major scale consists of F-G-A-Bb-C-D-E-F. Since F, A, and C are the first, third, and fifth notes, they make up an F major chord.

Once you know how to play a major chord, finding the minor chord is an easy task. The only difference between the two is the third note; a minor chord has a flatted third note. By now, you have learned that a D major chord consists of D, F#, A. Lower the F# to an F natural and you have a D minor chord.

Now you know how easy it is to play major and minor piano chords. If you haven’t already learned your major and minor scales, now is the time to start. They will make your progress as a piano player much easier.

Now, when most beginners think of playing piano chords, their minds immediately turn to triads. This modern sounding 6-note chord covers more than 2 octaves of the piano making it the best starting place for the beginner to create modern sounds.
